Nairobi Aviation College emerged first runners-up in the just concluded national Drama and music festivals that was held at Moi Kabarak University auditorium in Nakuru County in the month of august.
The annual event that is organized by the ministry of higher education science and technology in conjunction with the ministry of sports, gender and culture, attracted dozens of participants from tertiary institutions and middle level colleges.
Nairobi aviation college performance improved dramatically this year in comparison to other years. The college presented 7 performing categories that comprised of 3 choral verse entries, 2 solo verse entries, a single public speaking entry and one singing entry.
The choral verse dubbed ‘mwewe’ choreographed by the college drama and music department trainer MR Kamau Wa Karugu emerged first runners up with the first position going to Kigari TTC entry known as ‘the case of Mara. Meanwhile the other Swahili choral verses titled ‘Usuhuba’ and’ Densi Tata’ rose to the occasion and emerged second best runners up respectively.
However, the star of the occasion was Mr. Javan Duke, a journalism student at Nairobi Aviation College, who stole the show with his electric live stage public speaking entry. His oratory skills, charismatic attire and fluency in words moved the adjudicators in affirmation and commanded a great applause from the members of the public.
The patron of the drama and music department who also acts as the college dean of students Mr. Albert Barasa congratulated his students for high discipline, great tolerance and their willingness to present the college in the national event. “We are grateful for the way you have conducted yourselves, we are also thankful for this year’s performance and we look forward to next year’s event “, he said.
While unveiling this year’s event, education CS Amina Mohammed congratulated the organizers of this year’s fete, terming the event curtain raiser slogan as the best.”…….we have come of age, the years of HIV/AIDS stigmatization are long gone”, she said. “We highly commend the good work done by the organizing board, the theme of this year’s event is wonderful”. This year’s event attracted several sponsors unlike last year, with Safaricom and Coca-Cola Kenya being the main sponsor.The cabinet secretary for education announced that the 2020 drama and music festival will be held at Mombasa polytechnic in Mombasa county in the month of July.
